I met Avishuah in November 1973 when I signed up for משמר אזרחי. I was studying in Jerusalem for the year. Avishuah took me under his wing and showed me how to load and shoot my ancient WW2 M1 rifle. He was always calm and warm and fatherly to me a 19 year old American with middling Hebrew skills. He and his family invited to go to schul with him and join his family for Shabbat dinner every week.
